Resident Librarian

Shauna Coleman

Hello everyone! My name is Mrs. Coleman and I absolutely love teaching. I am so pleased to be the Librarian at Harlan Elementary and to be a part of your child's educational journey. Learning in the library helps students to make connections to the community they live in, embrace the world of information, work collaboratively with others, and to make sense of the world around them. During library class we will get to explore how to navigate a library and find reading materials that will inspire us, how to use technology to make learning more fun and engaging, how to do research effectively and use resources that are just right for us, and begin coding. Students will be a part of the decision-making process when it comes to learning and choosing library materials. Mostly, we will build great relationships and have fun.

This is my 23rd year of teaching and my fourth year at Harlan. I taught first and second grade before becoming a librarian. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Michigan and a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University. In my "spare time" I love spending time with my family. We ski, rock climb, swim, read, play board games and just get silly. We are truly excited to be a part of the Harlan Community.
