March is Reading Month - Harlan Elementary with sponsorship by our PTA Presents One School, One Book - 2025-2026
Battle of the Books 2026
Battle of the Books, a reading-enrichment program sponsored by Baldwin Public Library, aims to promote reading among fourth and fifth-grade BPS students. To participate, students collaborate with an adult coach and select five books from a designated list. They will then engage in a contest where they will compete against other teams by answering trivia questions related to the books they have read.
The event itself will occur on March 14th at 10 a.m. at Wylie E. Groves High School.

Scholastic Fall Book Fair 3/24 - 3/25 during conferences only
The book fair is back. Visit https://www.scholastic.com/bf/harlanelementaryschool6 for online fair information or to browse titles that might be coming to Harlan.
If you would like to fund a teacher's e-wallet to help buy books for their classroom click here. You can click on a teacher's name and it will take you to their e-wallet account, you add the amount you would like to donate and then they will shop for books from the fair.

Author Book Breaks
The Birmingham Education Foundation (BEF) has awarded all BPS elementary schools a grant to provide book breaks to our students. This program features virtual author visits where students can hear from world renown authors, submit questions for the authors and engage with English language arts curriculum in new ways.
