🪮Partnering to Prevent Lice
After a recent meeting with Denise Bradley, our BPS nurse, we’ve gained some valuable insights on preventing lice. We are working diligently to prevent the spread at school, and here are a few simple steps you can take at home:
✔️ Perform regular head checks: Catching lice early makes them much easier to manage. Check behind the ears, at the nape of the neck, and along the hairline.
✔️ Limit head-to-head contact: Remind kids to avoid activities that involve close contact, like sharing pillows, hats, or hair accessories.
✔️ Keep personal items separate: Encourage children not to share combs, brushes, or hair ties. Lice can’t jump or fly, but they can crawl from item to item.
✔️ Wash and dry thoroughly: If lice are detected, wash bedding, clothing, and accessories in hot water and dry them on high heat. Items that can’t be washed can be sealed in a plastic bag for two weeks.
⭐ Communicate with us: If your child has lice, please inform the school. We’ll maintain confidentiality but can prioritize cleaning in relevant areas.

💉Vaccination Requirements for the 2025-2026 School Year
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, it’s important to ensure that all students are up to date on their required vaccinations. Michigan law mandates that students entering Kindergarten, 7th grade, or new to the district must meet the state’s immunization requirements to attend public school.
Parents will receive a Family Vaccination letter and an MDHHS infographic listing the vaccines and doses required for school entry.
Waiver Information
If you wish to obtain an immunization waiver:
-
For medical reasons: Consult with your child’s physician.
-
For non-medical reasons: Schedule a ~30-minute appointment with the Oakland County Health Division.
Once the waiver form is completed, it will be entered into the MCIR system and accessible to schools.
Please make sure your child is up to date on their vaccinations before the school year begins. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
